During 2011 we conducted a regional Fauna Atlas of Southwestern Portugal covering the 200 km coastline between Tróia and Burgau (SW Portugal). Surveys involved transects and specific counts and were conducted during Winter, Spring and Autumn, targeting at fish, amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal species. Birds represented ca.70% of the total number of vertebrate species detected. The main outcome of the data collected during this project was used to develop a website to create public environmental awareness and education.
