We conducted a study of seabird populations at Corvo Island in the Azores. Using radar technology we aimed at estimating population size of seabirds in this island by detecting and tracking the main breeding areas Cory’s shearwater, Manx shearwater and Little shearwater which nest in inaccessible sea cliffs.
We used an X-band marine radar to collect data from vantage points on the top of sea cliffs and aboard a boat on which we performed sea transects around of the island. The data was analysed using Birdtrack software.
This study was commissioned by SPEA Birdlife Portugal and LIFE project “Safe Islands for Seabirds” (LIFE07 NAT/P/000649).
